Support us in the fight for a better food system.
2014 was the year that kickstarted the movement against food waste in the USA. Here are our top 5 highlights:
The event brought together a wide coalition of organisations including NRDC, St Vincent de Paul, End Food Waste, Food Shift and Sustainable America as well as activists Rob Greenfield, Jonathan Bloom and Robert Egger. Thousands of people ate a free lunch made entirely out of food that would otherwise have been thrown away, demonstrating the delicious solutions to food waste. Hundreds of pounds of wonky fruit and veg rejected by supermarkets were also given away, and an incredible program brought together food waste warriors from all over the Bay Area and beyond!
Ahead of both Feeding the 5000 events in the USA our volunteers went out onto local farms to glean produce that would otherwise have been wasted, highlighting the vast amounts of food waste on farm level due to excessive cosmetic standards of retailers.
2015 will be the year that the food waste movement in the USA reaches critical mass, with events planned in New York City and many other cities and campuses. To get involved and help us end food waste join the movement and spread the word- share this page, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
