Purpose of the position

 Scope of job 

You will be:

· Assisting in daily livestock care, including feeding & watering and health monitoring.

· Collecting eggs daily, inspect for quality and store them appropriately

· Monitoring soil health and biodiversity, and collect data for analysis.

· Participating in planting, harvesting, and crop management activities.

· Supporting composting operations and organic waste management.

· Helping manage livestock using holistic grazing techniques.

· Collaborating with the farm team to develop and execute sustainable farming plans.

· Educating and engaging with the community about regenerative agriculture practices

· Performing routine maintenance on farm buildings & infrastructure

Time with Feedback

In addition to working with your host organisation, you will spend a proportion of your time working with other young people, receiving additional training and development with Feedback and external facilitators. This time will be spent learning more about the environmental and ecological crisis and how it relates to the food system; it will also include elements of activism training, employability skills workshops, leadership & project management training and bespoke support based on your professional and personal development. You will also access 1:1 additional support and mentoring to guide you through the process.

Essential Attributes:

· A strong interest in sustainable farming, animal welfare, and environmental stewardship.

· Ability to carry out physically demanding tasks, including lifting, walking, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.

· Eagerness to develop new skills and gain knowledge about regenerative farming practices and principles.

· Ability to collaborate effectively with others while following instructions and asking for clarification when needed.

· A proactive approach to tackling tasks and addressing challenges on the farm.

· Commitment to punctuality, completing tasks as assigned, and treating animals and equipment with care.

Desirable Attributes:

· Previous experience handling livestock, operating farm equipment, or participating in agricultural work is advantageous but not mandatory.

· Awareness or familiarity with concepts like rotational grazing, soil health, and biodiversity is a bonus.

· Careful approach to farm tasks, ensuring accuracy and consistency in work.

· Desire to contribute to a farm that prioritizes environmental health, animal welfare, and sustainability.

· Enthusiasm for learning hands-on and being part of a regenerative farming community

Eligibility:

In order for your application to be considered, you need to fulfil the following eligibility criteria:

1. You must be aged 18-24 years old
2. You must be legally entitled to work in the UK
3. You must not currently be enrolled on a higher education degree (undergraduate or postgraduate).

PLEASE NOTE: Green Futures placements are designed to assist those who have experienced barriers to entry in to the environmental and community food sectors. As such, we will prioritise candidates who do not have undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications. We still encourage you to apply If you have an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

TRAVEL TO WORK:  We recognise that travelling to your placement via public transport may present challenges. We are committed to ensuring that travelling to placements will not be a barrier for people, and are happy to discuss ways to make this work. You may be able to access a bursary scheme to support the purchase of a bicycle or other low carbon methods of travel to work. This placement is about 8 minutes by car from the town centre of Buckingham. The host is able to collect the applicant from the town centre if needed, where there are bus links to Milton Keynes, Bicester, Winslow and Aylesbury.

No previous experience in the environmental sector is necessary. We encourage applications from:

• People who are passionate about affecting positive change and want to take action to tackle climate change but have not had relevant work or education experience, such as studying a relevant subject at college or university.
• People who want to try their hand at something new, but don’t know where to start, or haven’t had the opportunity to do so
• People who have studied a relevant subject at university but have not been able to secure paid employment in that sector within a year of graduating.

We are a small, family-run team dedicated to sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship. Our farm offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about farming to gain hands-on experience in regenerative practices. As part of our close-knit team, interns will work directly with experienced farmers, Tom, his father Mike as well as James, owner of Liberte Market Garden. This internship provides a comprehensive learning experience, allowing interns to deepen their understanding of regenerative farming techniques, animal care, and crop management. Additionally, interns will gain valuable insights into the operations of a small business, learning about the challenges and rewards of running a family farm. We are committed to fostering a supportive and educational environment where interns can grow their skills and contribute to our mission of sustainable farming

The role is directly responsible to the Farm Owners who will provide day to day management of the Placement and oversee your training programme.

Foodrise is being supported by The Rothschild Foundation until 2026 to offer three paid internship placements with environmental and community food organisations. Each placement lasts around 16 weeks and is paid at the Real Living Wage. These placements have been designed to create new local career pathways into the Green Economy for young people from minority groups, challenging or disadvantaged backgrounds.
